The Murakoz is a medium-sized draft horse with a kind temperament, strength and a willingness to work. It was developed in south Hungary.

The Murakoz, Hungary's heavy draft horse, was developed as a breed at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century on the farms around the Mura River. The foundation stock was native Hungarian mares (known as Mir-Insulan), Ardennes, Percherons, Norikers (from Austria), and some Hungarian half-bred stallions.

The Murakoz was very popular with farmers and was used extensively by the army in both world wars. Today, it is still used on the land, although its numbers have dwindled.

The Murakoz is an active and strong horse. It has a large head, and the face tends to be convex. The eyes have a generous outlook, and the ears are large. The neck is short and slightly crested. The withers are barely noticeable. The body is broad but has a pronounced dip to the back. The quarters are rounded and the croup slopes. The legs are short with a little feather and round feet. They stand around 16 hands high, and are ususally chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail.
