This charming race, originating in Holland, results from varied sources, of which the Andalusian, the Norman one and Norfolk. At last century, one introduced blood Hackney, Oldenbourg, Eastern and Anglo-Norman Frison, and one controlled the reproduction of best produced to fix a new race. Gueldre is a plough horse of first category.
It has presence, has a good conformation and beautiful and pleasant paces. Suited to work of the farm, it can as well be used as saddle horse and his qualities of power in one makes a jumper above the average. Its character is energetic, flexible, and it is of good nature.
It measures of 1.52 m to 1.60 m, sometimes more. Its dress is of all the frank colors, most ordinary being the alezane and the gray one.
Head not very pretty, convex chamfer. Intelligent expression. Beautiful wearing of head on a strong neck, curved. Good shoulders, strong and collected, broad and deep body, powerful back-hand. Short and strong legs, guns and bulges placed well. Tail carried high in a way too not very natural.
