Witnesses sought to fatal riding accident

February 10, 2011

Police are seeking witnesses to a fatal riding accident in Britain in which they believe the horse bolted into the rear of a car.
The accident happened shortly before 4.15pm in Fleet End Rd, Warsash, Hampshire.
Lindy Harding, 59, a former teacher from Fareham, was riding her highland pony, Flumpy, along a bridleway when the animal bolted and galloped into Fleet End Rd, where it collided with the rear near-side of a passing blue Vauxhall Corsa, police said.
Harding was thrown from the horse and suffered serious head injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
She was wearing a helmet and high visibility vest.
Friends said Harding lived in Titchfield Common and was a carer for her elderly father.
The driver of the car, a 53-year-old woman from Locks Heath, was uninjured.
The horse was re-captured and examined by a vet. It sustained only minor injuries and was returned to the stables.
