February 24, 2011

Thirteen horses have been killed in collisions in Manitoba, Canada, this week, after two herds got loose.
On Monday, 17 horses escaped near Virden, west of Brandon. Four were killed in collisions with trucks on the Trans-Canada Highway and six more died when struck by a train on the nearby track.
The truck and train occupants were unhurt.
On Wednesday, 12 horses got loose near Boissevain, in the southwest part of the province.
Three died in three separate collisions on Highway 10.
Two people were treated for injuries at the scene.
The road was closed for more than 20 hours while the scenes were attended to and the horses re-gathered.
