The Swede of North comes from a small local horse which, like many domestic indigenous races of ordinary type, was cross without understanding during centuries. One had never been concerned with perfect the type when in 1890, a company of breeding introduced standards Pares-Gudbrandals of the same stock in order to obtain a greater unit of race. The stud-book of the Swedes of North was open in 1924.

This horse shows a docility and of an exceptional softness, any food accepts and resists the majority of the diseases. Energetic, demanding horse few special care, it is very required by the farmers and the loggers, and was useful for Swedish artillery. Swedish of north is active, of goodwill and has a very good temperament.

Swedish of north has a rather large head, rectilinear profile, long ears. certain specimens point out the primitive type of the forests of the north of Europe. The neck short and is coiled, the strong and inclined shoulders, full chest. A long, deep, broad and powerful body. The back hand is round with the swallowed croup. The legs are excellent, short, smooth and of a dense framework, the foot is large and round, the little provided pennons, the abundant hairs.​
