Horses knifed following affair allegations

February 16, 2011

A man who accused his wife of having an affair with a stable owner then killed two of their horses with a knife, police allege.
Dennis Finkler, 47, of Conklin, Michigan, is alleged to have killed his wife's 12-year-old quarter horse named Mr Total Package and the stable owner's six-year-old palomino, named Gambler.
Their bodies were discovered on Saturday morning.
The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department has charged Finkler with two counts of animal cruelty and one of malicious property damage.
The horse deaths followed an argument between Finkler and his wife on Friday night, according to police.
It is alleged Finkler returned later to the property and killed the horses.
Finkler is out on $US3000 bond and is to appear in court later this month.
Local media quoted Ottawa County sheriff's Lieutenant Mark Bennett as saying: "He was upset over his beliefs of a relationship between his wife and the other man. It's a peculiar crime, but it's a brutal attack."
