Horse body welcomes forests "hold" decision

The British Horse Society has welcomed a Government announcement that its plans to sell some English forests this year are on hold, but it warns the fight is not yet over.
The society is worried that no details or assurances have been given as to how the permissive access that equestrians enjoy will be protected in the event of sales.
The public consultation document says nothing about the issue.
The society says it is important that, before any sales or leases of forests proceed, that appropriate measures have been put in place to secure access for equestrians.
It says it will continue to lobby hard over the issue.
