The Hanoverian is a noble, correctly proportioned warmblood horse with natural balance, impulsion and elegant, elastic movements characterized by a floating trot, a round rhythmic canter, and a ground-covering walk. The breed's historic home is in today's state of Lower Saxony, in northern Germany, the former Kingdom of Hanover where a flourishing horse-breeding industry has existed for 400 years. The Hanoverian has dispersed to all five continents and represents today one of the most prominent breeds of riding horses in the world.

The Hanoverian in America

The American Hanoverian Society was incorporated in 1978 for the purpose of gathering the Hanoverians in North America in a registry, to preserve and promote the breed. Since then it has grown rapidly in membership, horse registration, and approved stallions.

While the AHS is an independent organization with its own constitution and bylaws, it maintains a close relationship with the German Hanoverian Breeders' Society (the “Verband hannoverscher Warmblutzuechter”), regarding inspection, registration and licensing procedures and educational activities.​

The Hanoverian is the best known of the European Warmbloods, and has become very popular in the United States.


The Hanoverian horse excels in the equestrian disciplines of jumping, dressage, and eventing.

The success of Hanoverian horses in competition proves the soundness of the breed - 13 medals in the 1992 Olympics and four consecutive World Breeding Championships as well as five gold, one silver and two bronze medals in dressage and show jumping at the 1996 Olympics.

The American Hanoverian Society was established in 1978.
History of the Breed

The breed originated in northern Germany in the state of Lower Saxony, the former kingdom of Hannover. A flourishing horse-breeding industry has existed here for almost 300 years at Celle. Although the Hanoverian Studbook was officially begun in 1888, detailed pedigrees have been kept since the late 1700's.

Orinially, Thoroughbreds were crossed with Holsteiner mares to improve the quality of horses for cavalry and farming. In the past 70 years, the Hanoverian breeding program has adapted to the need for a more athletic riding horse, introducing other breeds as appropriate. The result is the modern Hanoverian horse.

The Hanoverian has elastic gaits characterized by an elastic ground-covering walk, a floating trot, and a round, rhythmic canter.

The Hanoverian stands at 15.3 to 16.2 hands. They are strong and athletic, and are quite even-tempered​

Hanoverian studbook recognition for top US stallion

A move by the American Hanoverian Society to adopt the German Hanoverian Verband's breeding rules has meant top Oldenburg stallion Noble Champion will be recognised by the US society.

A show jumping powerhouse during the late 90s, the stallion had previously been approved by the German Hanoverian Verband. However, after the American Hanoverian Society's (AHS) recent decision to conform their breeding rules to the German parent organization, Noble Champion has subsequently been licensed as an Elite Stallion and also been entered in the American Hanoverian Society's Jumper Breeding Program.

"We are excited that Noble Champion can finally be part of the American Hanoverian Society," says owner Anne Sparks, of Horses Unlimited. "He has always been a part of the German Hanoverian Verband and we are thrilled that he can now be available to American Hanoverian breeders." She stands Noble Champion, along with five other stallions, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Noble Champion was sired by Noble Roi xx (Windwurf xx/Nagaika by Chief), considered one of the most successful Thoroughbred sires in German warmblood breeds based on his FN breeding value ratings. Besides producing a number of show jumping superstars, Noble Roi xx sired progeny successful in dressage and three-day eventing. He also produced a number of top Verden and Vechta auction horses. His sire, Windwurf xx, captured multiple titles on the racetrack, including the coveted Racehorse of the Year distinction in both 1976 and 1977. Noble Champion's dam, Figarella is rated Stats Premium and is by the legendary Figaro, who was also the sire of Grand Prix showjumpers Figaro's Boy and Virtual Village Flower III. Besides Figarella, Figaro sired 45 other mares with the Stats Premium status.

Noble Champion's show ring successes included winning his first S Level international competitions as a 7-year-old, followed up by a career highlighted by winning 17 competitions at the S Level, including the 1997 Euskirchen Stallion Championship, CSIO of Madrid, CSI of Kiel, CSI of Maastricht, CSI of Wolfsburg and 2000 VTV Oldenburg Stallion Championship. He was in the ribbons at the S Level an astounding 80 times and named the 1998 Oldenburg Show Jumper Stallion of the Year. That same year, he also debuted in the FN breeding value ratings as a sire, with exceptional breeding values achieved by his offspring in both showjumping and dressage.

Even with a heavy show schedule, he has sired one licensed son, Noble Dancer; 35 graded mares, including one Stats Premium mare; and has 77 progeny competing under saddle in Germany. One of his most successful offspring to date is the mare Noble Savage, ridden by World Cup Finals winner Marcus Ehning. Following the 2002 show season, she stood in first place among 1993 Oldenburg branded horses in the disciplines of showjumping, dressage and eventing. Her career has been nothing but stellar since, with impressive finishes at such prestigious venues as Aachen, Hamburg, Zurich, Goteborg and Munster.

In addition to his recent recognition by the American Hanoverian Society as a breeding stallion, Noble Champion has also been licensed by the German Oldenburg Verband as a Premium Stallion and is represented in the U.S. by The Oldenburg Horse Breeders Society of the German Oldenburg Verband. He is also an International Sporthorse Registry four-star stallion.​

تاریخچه نژاد هانوورین

این نژاد از ایالت Lower Saxony واقع در شمال آلمان نشات گرفته است که پادشاهی سابق هانووری در آن وجود داشت.
در آنجا یک صنعت پر رونق پرورش اسب در شهر سل (Celle) به مدت تقریبا 300 سال وجود داشت. با اینکه نژادنامه اسب هانووری رسما از سال 1888 آغاز شد، اما نسب نامه های دقیق از سالهای سده 1700 میلادی نگه داشته شده بود.
در اصل تولید نژاد هانوورین از آنجا آغاز شد که اسب نژاد تروبرد با مادیان هولشتاینر یا هولستینر (Holsteiner) جفت شد تا اسب هایی با خصوصیات بهتر برای استفاده های نظامی و مزرعه داری تولید شود. اما در سده ی گذشته، برنامه های تولید نژاد هانوورین به سمت تامین نیاز به اسب هایی ورزشی برای سوارکاری سوق یافته است که باعث شد نژادهای مناسب دیگر اسب نیز به این برنامه وارد شوند. اسب نژاد هانوورین مدرن حاصل کار این برنامه ها است.

ویژگی های اسب هانووری

شیوه راه رفتن اسب نژاد هانووری بسیار با انعطاف است و به طرزی نرم گام بر می دارد، یورتمه رفتن او حالت شناوری دارد، و در هنگام تاخت حرکتش سریع، منظم و ریتم دار است. شاید به همین دلیل باشد که این نوع اسب را برای درساژ بسیار مناسب می دانند. قد اسب هانووری به 15.3 تا 16.2 وجب می رسد. این اسب ها اسبهایی قدرتمند و ورزشی هستند و رفتاری کاملا آرام و متعادل دارند.

پشت قوی ،بدن و اندام زیبا،جنبش های ورزشی سبک و زیبا. بسیار مناسب جهت درساژ.
به رنگ های شاه بلوطی، قهوه ای، سیاه ،سفید و خاکستری وجود دارند.

مشخصات اخلاقی
مهربان و باهوش هستند و یه آسانی به تربیت و تعلیم پاسخ می دهند.اغلب دارای خلق و خوی ثابت هستند.
