Egyptian horses die as protests spark downturn

Horses are starving to death in Egypt due to the economic paralysis resulting from protests against president Hosni Mubarak.

Harrowing images have appeared in the media showing emaciated horses that have died, some still tied to trees.
The owners rely on proceeds from tourists to keep the animals going, but visitors have fled the Arab nation in the wake of anti-government protests that began two weeks ago seeking Mubarak to go.
The Daily Mail reported skeletal corpses spread around Nazlet Al-Saman, about 25 kilometres from Cairo.
The protest has already cost the Eqyptian economy more than $US300,000, but the loss of horses for those who cater for tourists will be hard to overcome.
