Arrest over shooting of Arabian horse

February 19, 2011

A youth was arrested this week over the November shooting of a 22-year-old Arabian horse in North Carolina.
The horse, Amelatifa, or Amy, survived the shot, but the attending veterinarian was unable to remove the bullet, which is lodged near her heart.
The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office animal control division arrested a Candler youth, 16-year-old Tredge William Hill, on a felony charge of animal cruelty over the shooting.
This Wednesday arrest was in connection with the November 24 attack on Amy.
Deputies responded to a report of a person discharging a firearm on Ridge Road in Candler.
The property occupier had heard a gunshot and then observed two suspects fleeing the scene.
Amy had been hit by a shot from a .22 calibre rifle.
The sheriff's office says the investigation remains open, as they are attempting to locate anyone who may have further knowledge of the crime, as well as an additional suspect.
They are also seeking 21-year-old Jesse Wade Rigdon. Rigdon is currently wanted on an order for arrest for failing to appear in court on an unrelated matter.
